What you will find below are a few ideas for extending the learning depending on time and interest with your students. You can add them where it seems relevant and when conversations seem to flow in these directions.
First Voice
Whenever possible, use your local resources – Indigenous community knowledge keeper, Elders or speakers to come into your classrooms. This is by far the most authentic way of learning.
To get in contact with an Elder/ Community speaker check with your centre Administrator to see if there is a contact.
Check with your administrator for sources of funding for an honorarium
Elder & Community Protocols
It is respectful to offer Elders and community members who come to your class to speak as a gift of an honorarium for sharing their time and wisdom. Also, compensation for travel.

Land & Territorial Acknowledgements
This is a key component of beginning the conversation. Land Acknowledgements are a recognition that Indigenous Peoples are the original stewards of the lands on which we now live.

How to be an Ally
What does it mean to be an ‘Ally’?
“Created in 2019, the NETWORK’s Ally Toolkit aims to educate non Indigenous individuals and groups on how they can use their privilege to
listen, shift power dynamics, and take concrete steps towards (Re)conciliation-Action.”

The Decolonial Toolbox
Also from the Reseau Montreal:
“The Decolonial Toolbox offers the general public an Educational Pathway to understand historical and contemporary Indigenous realities. The pathway gathers carefully-selected resources produced by Indigenous peoples and organizations that are accessible and promote Indigenous expertise.”
