Transportation: Digital Affordances of Simulation Training

Summary
In today’s episode, we identified key concepts of simulation training and we compared and contrasted these concepts as found in gaming culture and web 2.0. We were curious about how our perceptions about this approach in relation to teaching authentic skills, transferable when it comes time to operate on real equipment. We found that Web 2.0 makes online training more accessible and authentic and the gaming culture is developing skills that support simulation training. Teachers can use learning theories that support the transfer of skills to organise their lessons and activities when using simulations, such as self-determined learning or project-based learning.
